Silk fabric - With a pattern imitating 14th century fabric

A diagonal pattern is repeated on the surface: two lions standing with their backs facing, looking backwards. They are surrounded by a palmet of lobed edge. At the tip of the palmet, there is a pair of two-feeted dragons, also looking backwards, with pink tongues and nails. They are enclosed by scattered pink and white rosettes and leaves. A similar silk fabric can be found in the Viennese Österreichisches Museum für Angewandte Kunst (see Volker 1986 pp. 1-2, pict.3, Mundt 1981 p. 144, pict. 136). The fifteenth century Italian model is also in the Viennese Museum (see Volker 1986 p.2, pict. 2). The illustration of this model is published in Fischbach 1874 plate 96/B.
