Its base, armrest and the sides of its back are made of one marvellously bent rod with a rectangular cross-section, which encompasses a plywood seat and open-worked, also plywood back. Its base is strengthened by a single stretcher. The firm executing this rocking chair, Jacob &Josef Kohn, founded in 1868 in Vienna, achieved a leading role in the manufacturing of bent furniture, with stores in almost all the countries of Europe. Beside the typical Thonet-types they also traded furniture of their own design. They were the first firm to apply an art designer, Gustav Siegel with his furniture the firm won a Grand Prix at the Paris World Fair in 1900.
