The broad, wavy rim of the round plate is lined with roses against a gold background. The surface is painted with a landscape with ruins.

According to the inscription on the bottom: Les Ruines de la Maison d'August sur le Palatin, the landscape shows the palace of the Emperor Augustus, on the Palatinus hill of Rome.

The plate is marked beside the inscription, in blue under the glaze, with the crowned marking of the Petersburg factory, forming the initials of Czar Paul I.
