Slender, rimmed base upturned pear-shaped bowl wide neck, splayed rim. The short pouring lip is looped. The broad, flat, curving handle fits to the neck and the top of the body. The surface is decorated with symmetrical spirals of stylized acanthus leaves. Painted in white, green and yellow, contoured with manganese. The handle is decorated with green and yellow vertical stripes. There is an inscription on a scroll under the pouring lip on both pieces.
a)MELE.ROS°C°LATO b) ACETOSO. S. Both pieces are marked with R° in manganese. A similar piece can be found in the collection of the Museo Internazionale delle Ceramiche in Faenza (Inv. Nos. 21691/c 335/1). with an inscription: SY°DI BETTONICA.S., marked with RO.M. Measurements: Base diam.: 10 cm, H. 28.5 cm made in Montelupo, in the 16th-17th century. According to Mrs L. Nékám, the piece with Inv. No. 4417 was made in Castel Durante (?), in the mid-16th century. Ilona Brestyánszky dates the same piece to the early 17th century, and suggests it was made in Deruta, referring to several analogues, for example: a tankard, Castel Durante, 16th century and a plate, Deruta, 1620-1650. The two pieces described above are identical with the syrup jug of Faenza, even the maker's sign R° being the same.
