The gondola is decorated with precious stones and pearls, suspended on a triple chain. The middle of the gondola shows a couple, embracing each other under a baldachin. The sides of the baldachin are flanked by the two gondoliers. Two further figures can be seen at the two ends of the boat, playing the lute. This pendant was modelled on one of the Medici-jewels, made by Giovanni Battista Scolari around 1570, now in the Museo degli Argenti in Florence (see Y. Hackenbroch: Renaissance Jewellery, Munich, 1979 p. 147, pict. 376B). However, it differs from the original in many ways for example, the figure playing the lute on the left is a Pantalone-figure, borrowed from another pendant of Scolari (see Hackenbroch, see above, p. 147, pict. 377).
