Ornamental vessel - With classicising decoration

The cylindrical, narrowing foot supports the broadening, conical vase of flat shoulders, a high neck and a cup-shaped top. Both scrolling handles rest on the shoulders, fixed to the sides by a female mask. The friezes with palmet and geometrical pattern (waves, Vetruvian scrolls and meanders) and the cannelured decoration of the foot and neck enclose the main motifs on the middle part of the vase: a half figure of a woman, with flowery- leafy tendrils coiling from her trunk on both sides of the vase, in a symmetrical arrangement. The antique, Grecian form and decoration were applied together with Renaissance motifs. The colouring (black, red, greyish green, ochre, creamy and a little white) does not only correspond the material but also recalls antique colours. The application of differently coloured paste in strict contours and the crackless, homogenous surface are evidence of an outstanding technical knowledge.
