Ornamental vase - with the so-called Arabeskendekor

The flat, ball-shaped body stands on a broad foot and a fing node. The high neck ends in a top which is wide at the rim and bulging at the bottom. Both sides of the piece are equipped with a flat handle scrolling at the two ends. The handle has a rectangular profile it starts from the shoulder-line and joins the neck under the top rim. The foot is lined with black and Indian red stripes, rows of gilt spots, zigzag motifs and stripes. The body is decorated with a rosette-like ornament, constructed of semicircles, spot lines, motives of hispano- moresque ornaments in light lilac and gold. The field between the two rosettes is filled with wavy and lambrequin-like motifs, creating an oriental, geometrical decoration. Between the top rim and the bottom, the neck is covered with gilt trellis enriched with white enamel spots. The vase resembles - though with a modified shape and proportions - to the fourteenth and fifteenth century Spanish-Moor Alhambra type.

The decoration is the so-called Arabeskendekor of the Lobmeyr company.
