The vertical and horizontal lines of the instrument are lined by narrow strap work the straight legs and horizontal stretchers emphasize the square structure. The top of the piano can be folded back, to be used as a stand for the scores. The bottom keys are covered with ivory, while the upper ones are veneered with ebony plates. There is a marking above the keyboard, written in ink: TOMKINSON LONDON. The tuning range of the square piano is 5 octaves + fifths, FI - C4. The piano is equipped with a slide action without fly. The original knee register has not survived. The instrument's delicate, yet functional, construction is characteristic of the Regency period. The piece described above is an important one from the collection of early hammer pianos in the Budapest Museum of Applied Arts.
