Mária Minya Munkácsy and Gádor award-winning ceramic artist is a significant member of contemporary Hungarian ceramic art, in addition to her industrial designer career and artistic activities, Minya also has timeless merits in education. The scale model of a three-metre-high sculpture of a fountain, made for the ground floor of the building of the Sugár department store in Budapest’s Örs vezér Square. The original used to stand in the middle of a circular, tiled basin, but it was dismantled during the wave of privatisation after the fall of communism in Hungary, without the artist’s knowledge or consent. Entering the scale model into the collection of the museum is a genuine act of salvage, which also raises urgent issues of professional ethics related to heritage preservation. (Contemporary photos and detailed description in Hungarian of the fountain see on the Köztérkép web page.)
