The oval picture shows a young man with powdered hair, dressed in armour, in front of a greyish- green background. The plain smile and the expressionless look on his face are probably due to the affected style of the painter instead of being personal characteristics of the model. Marked on the right: A. F. König.

The back of the painting is covered with warp-patterned silk, under a glass plate. The two glass plates of the picture are fastened with a narrow, black silver setting, which is serrated on both sides. There is a drop-shaped ornament at the bottom of the frame the painting is fitted with a hanging ring at the top, above a five-pointed coronet. August William (1722-1758), the Prince of Prussia married Louisa Amalia, the princess of Braunschweig-Wolffenbüttel in 1742 the double portrait was probably made at that time or a little later.

It was possibly painted in the early years of König (1722-1787), since it shows light strokes of the brush instead of the spotting technique, a characteristic feature of König's later pieces. Its companion piece is exhibited with Inv.No. 69.1357.1.
