Mythological figures in leaf wreaths can be found on both sides of the round shape: on one side Aktaeon and Diana, while on the other Pyramus and Thisbe. The forerunner of the illustration must have been the engravings of a popular edition of Ovidius’ Metamorphoses published in 1581 in Frankfurt am Main. The moulds usually carved from pear or walnut became really popular in the 17th century. The value of the decorations frequently carved, chiselled into a 4 – 10 cm thick board were given by the rich, diverse and detailed motifs.
