On the recto, which is bordered by small scallop and floral motifs, in the middle of a tiny island, can be seen a company in front of a house among bushes. Three ladies are sitting, on each side is a young man, and to the left there is a girl, a shepherd's crook in her hand. In front of the doll-like figures is a basket of flowers and a little dog. In the distance—beyond the water—a range of hills can be made out. A special feature of the little picture, which is painted in pastel colours, is the gold contouring and detailing of the figures' clothing. On the verso is a lonely island. The sticks are embellished with painted flowers, whereas the guard-sticks exhibit carved and painted flowers in the upper part there is an idyllic scene: a boy sitting at the foot of a tree is playing a flute and his sweetheart standing before him is listening above them is a chandelier (?). In the uppermost medallion sheep are grazing. When folded it seems that the carved flowers on the guard-sticks bind up the other sticks. A fan made with similarly executed sticks is MAA inv. no. 59.901.
