The multi-figure composition on the leaf, which is painted using the sfumato technique, shows a sacrificial scene: next to a smoking altar an elderly priest is using a cup to draw from a sacrificial vessel men and women are hurrying towards the altar from both sides. On the verso a riverbank landscape with three staffage figures can be seen. The spaces on the intricately pierced grid pattern on the sticks are filled out with flowers, doves, musical instruments, and putti. On the upper, mother-of-pearl covered, part of the sticks there is a young girl in an oval frame set among love symbols. The depiction on the recto was probably based on a large-scale painting its original has not yet been discovered.
