In the centre of the blue leaf, which is framed by a row of miniature palmettes and festoons of spangles, is a grisaille-painted depiction: above the clouds the arrival of Venus drawn by swans and attended by winged amorettes. The leaf is enriched on each side of the scene by a scattering of painted flowers and bloom-shaped spangles. The verso is unembellished. The openwork on the sticks is of a leaf and festoon design a foil washer gleams from beneath each guard-stick.
