Erzsébet Katona Szabó started working with leather in the 1990s. Her leather collages are made with a special technique: the painted leather pieces are stitched together, resulting in large surfaces, and the material is ruptured time to time. This is how her works of monumental power become light and airy. The play of tones and the delicate plasticity of the surfaces make the surfaces playful, diverse and versatile. Leather is a popular flag material among the nomads. This work is part of a series, followed by further creations in 2000, by Symbol-flags and a Cope-flag. The only motif, the Latin cross is placed alongside and is revealed thanks to delicate ruptures and perforations.
