The plates are covered with green-painted leather. The surface is enframed with a strap frame of flowers and foliage, between two gilt lines. There is a rosette in each corner. The middle of the surface is decorated with musical instruments: guitar, lute and trumpet, hung on a ring with a ribbon. At the time of the restoration, the binding was put on the plates upside down. The saddle is divided into six fields by gilt lines the second field shows the gilt title: Erkoltsi/ Kezdokönyv, while the other fields are decorated with stylised lutes. The engravings of the blue endpapers are gilt, the sewn headband is a later addition.
