Both covers have rolled borders, depicting Justitia, Lucretia, Prudentia and an unnamed female figure (Suavitas), with the date 1539 beside her. Maker's mark C.G. near the head of Lucretia. The middle is decorated with lines of lilies and rosettes the front plate shows the owner's initials I.H. on the top and the date 1550 at the bottom. The triple-banded back is decorated with foliage. The top of the back is made of green and white cotton yarn. The cover can be closed by two etched copper buckles. (For more information about Master C.G. of Wittenberg cf. Haebler 1928, vol.1, pp.136-139). The person who made the inscription was probably a member of the Beszerm6nyi family of Abauj county who was raised to the nobility by Gábor Bethlen in 1624.
