In the foreground of the wall-title the prodigal son feeding the swine sits on a stone and gazes up at the sky in devotion with his hands clasped on his breast. In the background peasants are gathering in the hay and the vague outlines of a large building is to be seen. The source of the subject-matter is one of the parables of the New Testament (Luke, 15.15.). The prodigal son is a hungry swineherd, who longs even for the food of his animals, but he is not even given that. Then he recalls that in his parents' house day-workers live better than he does and decides to return to them. The colours of the tile are blue, green, brownish yellow and a little black.
