Jug

The small foot has a splaying rim it supports a pear-shaped body, an extremely narrow neck with eight faceted sides, and a cup-shaped, beaked spout at the top. On one side, there is a stirrup handle, connecting the body with the top. The whole surface is decorated with geometrical, historicizing, oriental pomegranates, flowers and birds. Stylised fruit and tulip motifs run around the body, just below the neck, which is faceted into eight sides. The top rim is lined with tulips. All decoration are carved and etched.

The jug is a fine example of the etched decoration, using the motifs of the oriental-Hungarian style and applying them to the traditions of the Lobmeyr carved glasses. The champagne glass with Inv.No. IM 61.261 is decorated with similar motifs, while a beer glass similar in style but different in motifs, can be found in the collection of the Budapest Museum of Applied Arts, with Inv.No. 61.620.
