Jug with pewter lid

The low, round vessel features stylised tendril ornaments with flowers and leafs on the yellow glazing on the vessel, in a narrow band around its middle. The white, dynamic plant ornaments painted on the saturated sun-yellow base are detailed with cobalt blue and delicate brownish-black manganese contours. Across its arced handle, over the painted band the date of manufacture of the vessel 1650 can be seen. The base and mouth edges of the small jug are enclosed in pewter rims its metal lid is closed with a sectioned handle. The lid features a high, cordon-ornamented thumb support its hinge is decorated with a rosette. The work of the pewter-smith protects the most vulnerable parts of the ceramics that chip the easiest: its base and its mouth.
