During 1905 there was a civil movement against the Fejérváry-govemment. Its members founded the “Tulip Garden Society”. The aim of the society was to show their political solidarity and also to stand beside “all national principles, movements and trends”. In accordance with the typical tum-of-the-century way of thinking, they wanted to achieve their goals with an intensive support of the national industry. A great number of ladies from the aristocracy joined this initiative. “Let's wear a
tulip!” was their slogan, since the tulip, being one of the most ancient, oriental motifs of Hungarian folklore ornaments, had a symbolic meaning for them. The badge of the association was designed by Henrik Darilek, right after he moved to Budapest in 1906. The round, stylized decoration stresses the central element, with three tulip heads springing from it. This drawing shows both the frontal and the side view. Its colouring is dominated by the three national colours of red, white and green,
against a dark and light blue base. The badge was realized after the design, with enamel painting.
