The ink well forms a sarcophagus its jointed plinth is supported by four repoussé claw feet. The sides are decorated with chased lilies against a trellis surface, with a bay wreath enclosing an empty field in between. There are stylised pilasters on the four corners, surmounted by and egg-and-dart top corniche. The cover contains three tanks with plain sides, covered with folding lids with egg- and-dart rims. The lids are equipped with a pine finial, decorated with a rosette motif.
