The rectangular field shows a scene from the Old Testament in a garlanded frame: in the foreground, are Judith and Holofernes, and on the right a battle scene with riders. The background depicts the buildings of Jerusalem.
There is a majuscule inscription at the bottom, in three lines: JUDIT KAM VON PETULIA UND HALTET MIT / HOLOFERNUS EINSTRETT SCHLUG IN DAS HAUPT AB / IN BUCH JUDIT AM 13.
The scene follows those of woodcut illustrations in 16th century Germany. The mould comes from a late 16th century German casting house, probably Württemberg.
