Furniture mount

The Zsolnay factory produced ceramic inlays and decoration for different pieces of furniture or wall panels. These plates present Hungarian national motifs collected and shaped by the end of the nineteenth century. The flowers and leaves already known from embroideries were moulded and painted with detailed, polychrome, iridescent technique in the Zsolnay factory. The motifs were published in József Huszka's Építészetünk múltja és jelene (The Past and Present of Hungarian National Architecture), in the chapter describing "Szűr, suba és ködmönhímzések virágai" (The flowers of typical Hungarian clothes, such as the szűr, the suba and the ködmön) /see Magyar Mérnök és Építész Egylet Közlönye (Publications by the Association of Hungarian Engineers and Architects), Budapest, 1892 p.205. In. Hommage to Ödön Lechner 1845-1914, an exhibition in the OMF Museum of Architecture, Budapest, 1985 p. 101 with illustration). According to a contemporary photo, the drawers of the Prime Minister's desk in the Houses of Parliament, designed and made by Endre Thék, were also decorated with these "ceramic mounts" (MI V, 1902 p.229). Miksa Róth also used these elements in his eosin mosaics.
