From 1890, Pál Horti apparently exchanged stylized and naturalistic ornaments for the typical arabesques of Art Nouveau. In this transitional period the two types of motifs were represented at the same time, like on this headline and other works submitted to the coverplate competition launched by the Athenaeum. In contrast with the coverplates, on this headline he could excellently compose the flower and arabesque in one ornament. The developing linear style of Horti recalls the dynamic lines of van de Velde.
