Inside a frame of flowers and leaves, bouquets of roses provide the so-called point de rose ornamentation on the leaf. Above the bouquet in the middle are small scallops tracing a series of arches on either side is a bouquet of roses in the lap of a large, open shell. On the sticks, from the bottom of the leaf downwards, hang bouquets of small flowers on each of the guard-sticks the very same motif is augmented by a butterfly in flight. A cord and tassel of white silk are attached to the handle. The collection's other point de rose lace fan, whose execution is somewhat coarser, is MAA inv. no. 53.183 (Cat. No. 135).
