The leaf—woven in faint pastel green, yellow and pink stripes—is affixed in an unusual way to the green- coloured sticks, which have a metallic gleam. When the fan is opened to the right, it gives the usual, continuous, surface on the other hand, when it is opened to the left, it resolves into nine parts, one part on two sticks. The mark, written in red ink, is on the left guard-stick: FAUCON PARIS. This fan-maker, who had two shops in the French capital, belongs among the lesser-known craftsmen (Cat. 1985, 144). The first issue for 1885 of the Hungarian fashion magazine Divat Ujsdg, January 1, 7, (No. 53—54) describes this type of fan as being suitable for masked balls.
