In the middle of the semi-transparent, once white, leaf framed with narrow, minutely patterned machine lace, a young girl attired in white sits in an autumn garden. On the right is the mark: F. Houghton. The serpentine sticks are unembellished. The catalogue mentioned below groundlessly attributes the authorship of this little picture to the English painter Arthur Boyd Houghton (1836—1875) the painter's person is unidentified. An identically marked piece is MAA inv. no. 19989 (Cat. No. 153).
