On either side the leaf is framed by luxuriant gold and silver floral ornamentation, while at the top and bottom narrow leaf and wave ornamentation features. In the middle, a Rococo scene is playing out on an idyllic little island to the fairest lady selected from among her companions two winged putti are bringing a crown on a cushion. A young man bows before her on the left side stands a young girl who has retired from the group, while on the right a young man sits beneath a tree. On the verso there is a country house in a riverside landscape, and in the foreground a young shepherd kneels before his sweetheart. On the broad sticks—two sticks provide one motif—there are roses among bending, heart-shaped leaves. Below are festoons of flowers, from which ribbon hangs down. On the guard-stick there is classical-style cameo appliqué and a bouquet of artificial flowers. The upper edge of the leaf is densely embellished with lily of the valley. A similar fan embellished with artificial flowers in the collection is MAA inv. no. 70.338 (Cat. No. 110).
