The fan, made from cropped, coloured feathers, exhibits a brown-black—white—black—brown—black—green- striped pattern (colours listed from bottom to top). The fashion periodical Divat Ujsdg, 15 March 1895 issue, 47, nos. 47—48) contains a fan of the same construction, under the name "collapsible spring fan". Other similar pieces, although with different coloration, are MAA inv. no. 59.990 and 59.991 (Cat.-Nos., 179, 180).
