The calfskin sticks of the unusually constructed fan broaden as they proceed up the ribs, behind which is a purple-coloured leaf. There is a short fringe of purple silk on the top edge of the fan. The fan's sole embellishment is the gilded edging on the sticks. An identical piece was advertised in the fashion publication Budapesti Bazar, 1 March 1876 issue, 36, No. 33 and 39: "Spring walking-out fan made of calf and atlas. At Alajos Marton's fancy-goods store, having just arrived from Paris".
