Made in the manner of (so-called Vernis Martin) fans produced in the first decades of the 18th century in imitation of lacquer painting from the Far East. On the recto there are Rococo couples lazing and strolling on the gently sloping edge of a forest. On the verso there is a detail of a forest with a stream and houses. A ribboned line of Rococo flowers frames the scenes in front, while ornamentation consisting of intersecting semi-circles frames those at the back. On the guard- sticks there is a basket of flowers with love-symbols.
