The leaf is framed by a row of flowers and leaves that is narrower at the bottom and on the sides but broader at the top. Within the frame there are three irregular fields made up of various—scallop, grill, star, and leaf—motifs, in each there is a bouquet of flowers. The most emphatic motif and element in the ornamentation is a repeated rose, hence this leaf belongs to one of the most popular types of Brussels lace: point de rose. The sticks are unembellished, and a white silk cord and tassel are attached to the handle. The collection's other, more finely executed, point de rose lace fan is MAA inv. no. 55.955 (Cat. No. 136).
