In the central medallion of the fan, Francis I, Emperor of Austria and King of Hungary can be seen with his second wife, Mary Theresa, princess of Sicily. To their right, on a table there is the Hungarian crown, and to the left Buda castle and the royal palace can be seen. The fan was probably made on the occasion of the crowning of Francis I and his wife to King and Queen of Hungary in 1792. Two smaller medallions feature allegoric female figurines, perhaps symbolising the future relation of the emperor and the nation. The fan that due to its material and technical execution was a luxury object of the eighteenth century, carries important cultural history references and historic value.
