The sticks, which end in trefoils at the top, exhibit brown and simple geometrical ornamentation. The two black guard-sticks have high-relief embellishment: edelweiss interwoven with ribbon—scratched onto the ribbon is an inscription: 16/8 Gastein 1877 a boy in Tyrolean dress, and a beetle and fly beneath him. A black silk cord, tassel and ring are attached to the handle.
