Simpson was a book artist and illustrator. He founded and issued «The Book of Bookplates». The rich, twined, ornamental border of this ex libris resembles the publications of Morris. In the centre, there is an elegant lady figure, reading a book. Her hair and clothing are two flat unshaded black spots.
