The versatile Craig - being an actor, a graphic and a stage designer - started to draw in 1898, creating his early pieces. He is the father of puritan ex libris art, and always believed that nothing but the name, and a tiny, simple ornament can be present on an ex libris. In this case, he used only two motifs: a stylized flower on one and a lady’s hat on the other. He created a new trend with his reserved, simple graphic ornaments.
