In French ex libris decoration the earlier painterly shaded, illustrated motifs were replaced by the decorative graphic ornaments of Henry Andre, a Parisian painter. This ex libris made for A. Geoifroy, the venerable art critic, is characterized by the contrast of black and white. The picture is an illustration of the motto in the ribbon inscription A TOUS VENTS JE SEME: The young Wind blows away the fruit of the dandelion. This quotation became famous as a lexicon emblem, used by the Larousse Publishing House.
