The dress is made of taffeta, with small white and lilac checks. The bodice is stiffened by fish-bones, has a V-shaped neckline and closes with two upholstered buttons at the front. Set-in, tapering sleeves, lined by lobed, gathered frills. Three multigonal gores called polonaise are fixed to the waist at the back. It was named after the robe d la polonaise, which was popular in 1775. The puffed skirt was divided into two or three parts at the back, letting the legs appear. The loose skirt can be gathered by a ribbon that is threaded in the waist. The front consists of three horizontally tailored stripes the top two are separately ruffled, the bottom one is pleated. The back of the skirt has a slight tail. The sleeves, the polonaise and the skirt are lobed, trimmed with gathered frills. The trimmings and the cut lines are emphasized by triple plaits of lilac cord placed on gathered black machine lace.
