The three parts of the caparison — the front and two lateral sides — are connected to each other with bands of woven pattern ending in buckles. The bottom is framed with a fringe knotted to the red-blue-gold trimming. The exterior cover is dark violet silk velvet, with fourteen kinds of embossed, raised metal fittings, which are attached to the base with narrow leather straps on the wrong side. The lateral sides contain two parts — front and back — with similar decoration: a rose in the middle, framed by shell motifs growing out of a tulip. Radiating from the centre towards the edges, it is divided into two fields, which are filled with motifs of stars and roses. The front side has a similar decoration, only the radiating division being missing. The lateral sides used to be connected with red leather padding stitched with yellow silk thread and lined with a silk cloth of similar colour. In the corners of the sides there are large size silver-gilt shell motifs, in the centre the mark of the sultan Mehmed IVth (tugra) with a date (VOA 1058) 1648. Similar pieces, also with the tugra of Mehmed IVth, are in the collection of the Badisches Landesmuseum, Karlsruhe and in the former Batthyany-Strattmann collection, Kormend.
