The jug imitates pieces made in the first quarter of the 17th century its round, jointed foot is decorated with ribbon and flower motifs. The stout stem shows three horns of plenty between three bearded male heads. It is surmounted by a protruding belt of lines bent downwards. The egg- shaped, tapering body is fluted at the bottom and at the top the middle depicts three repousse medallions in an oval cartouche enclosed with ribbons, showing Venus, Mercurius, Cupid and Diana. Between them, there is a bunch of fruits and a fishing swan, placed below bearded masks with ram heads. The neck shows two bearded masks with horns of plenty and two grotesque figures at the front as well as at the back. The oval, upwardly rising top rim is open at two places. The double-scroll handle rises high up, decorated with acanthus leaves, and a female head above a ringed part in the middle. It ends in three snake heads. This jug type was fairly popular in the l6l0s in French and Italian territories.
