Károly M. Reissmann's sketch (the companion piece of the one described under Cat. No. 9.239) was probably made for the decoration of a private palace in Pest. The door frame is divided into several fields, enriched with naturalistic mistletoe twigs of yellow berries. The yellow colour is repeated on the mimosas on the door. The main stress, however, is placed on the oval landscape above the door. There is a small bench among the trees and bushes of the foreground. There is a peacefully coiling
river and a castle silhouette on the top of the facing hill in the background. The reserved colouring of the small drawing uses mainly the combination of violet and crimson shades. Reissmann on his interior designs often combined his clear ornamental motifs with landscape elements. This was mainly because apart from being an interior designer, he was a well-known landscape painter. In sketches similar to these two, he managed to connect both of his activities.
