The source of Abt's decorative ornaments is nature, and plants. Beside his typical floral ornaments drawn over a black background, he also used symmetrically arranged flower and fruit motifs over black leaves. Sometimes, there are traces of perpective or modelling but the shades are also composed in order. He has a peculiar way of depicting leaves creating a concentrated, irregular line network that reminds us probably of the annual rings of trees.
