József Kossuth, the painter and graphic designer was first of all known for his paintings. This tail-piece, published in the periodical Magyar Iparművészet (Hungarian Applied Art) seems to be one of several book decorations of similar style. The hunting or fishing putto figures against a black background are enframed by stylized borders of the favourite plants of the age.
