A splayed, cylindrical shape, cut into 22 sides. The bottom is decorated with a flaming heart and two kissing birds, etched with gold foil against a red lacquer. The bottom of the side shows a row of stylized gold leaves, surmounted by a battle scene: two men on horseback, firing their guns at each other, and a third one, stabbing his enemy. There is a 5 mm wide gold line along the rims.
The glasses cropped up in 1962, when they were identified as the Apafi-glasses, first published by István Teglás in 1888. The glasses had survived in the collection of the Köblös-family of Magyarigen. They had supposedly been given by Mihály Apafi (1676-1713), the ruling prince of Transylvania, to István Récsey, his steward, as a reward for loyal service.
