The round foot, shaped of a wavy band, support a wreathed belt that holds the small jasper cup. The handle is fixed to two bands, forming repousse griffins. Masters of the age of historic ism preferred to go back to motifs used by seventeenth century goldsmiths. One typical characteristics of this trend is that works of art were created with the combination of various materials. The carved jasper cup in the silver-gilt setting follows this approach, in a miniature form.
