Cup - So-called 'rosso antico' ceramic

The dark red, bulging cup has a slightly splayed top rim its handle joins the top rim with an oval ring. The surface is decorated with black, embossed, separated motifs of female figures wearing peplos, a woman with a torch, an olive with a putto beside it, a dog, a male figure holding an olive branch, and a basket. The inside of the cup is glazed. There is an impressed „WEDGWOOD” marking and an impressed „D" on the foot. The broad, flat saucer has a curved rim, lined with embossed black acanthus leaves on the inside. Marked with an impressed „WEDGWOOD” marking. This type of cup and saucer is published in the 1817 catalogue of the Wedgwood factory, with type number 1621.
