The triangle-shaped upper part has a hook its centre shows a medallion with a basket of flowers, a gardeners' hat and a digger. Two chains hang from each side of the upper part, with snap-hooks at their ends. Flat units of square, circle and oval shape hang down from the middle, linked together with chains. They are decorated with baskets of flowers, fruits and a dog. This kind of chain, connected to a belt, was designed for carrying scissors, keys or other tiny objects around. For example, in the 18th century, men used to wear their watches hanging from a chatelaine chain.
