Cabinet - with marble inlays

The five flat bun feet of the base are connected with plain laths. On these are standing the console-shaped legs. The three front consoles are inlayed with marble panels set in oval medallions. On the rim rectangular and oval shaped marble plates alternate. The cabinet placed on the base stands on five flat brass balls. The foot rim is decorated with carvings of shells, volutes and foliage. On the foot border there are five drawers on the end faces are stone inlays placed in rectangular fields. The three parts of the cabinet placed above each other, opening with doors, are decorated with niches decorated with shells, between double columns the end faces of the drawers are similar to those of the rim, and the drawers themselves are framed with carved decorations of volutes and foliage. The literature considered this cabinet to be a work of Italian inspiration. In 1983 it was considered (on the basis of an example in Augsburg) to be a work which had been made in Bohemia or Austria. Since the companion piece of the cabinet in the Germa-nisches Nationalmuseum in Nuremberg is registered as an Augsburg work (Kreisel-Himmelheber 1968/1973, vol. 1. pp. 174—175., fig. 372). The experts tend to consider the exhibited cabinet to be of Augsburg origin.
