Bureau cabinbet

The chest of three drawers stands on four bun feet and has a curved, wavy shape. The drawer panels are decorated with small, framed fields on the side, and a bigger one in the middle. The slanted, folding desktop is in the middle part of the cabinet, flanked by two small drawers. It shows an inlaid decoration of shell motifs threaded on ribbons, in a framework of maple filet inlay. The curved door for the top part is decorated with intarsia in perspective: an architectural altar depicting the Holy Trinity. Beside and under the door are nine drawers, with ribbon framework similar to those of the chest. On the inside of the two drawers beside the desktop, an inscription in pencil can be detected, probably made by the former owner of the cabinet: Özv. Pallavicini Edéné. (Mrs. E. Pal- lavicini). The date 1765 is engraved on the inside of the drawer under the tabernacle. The material, the technique of manufacture, the type and shape of the cabinet suggest that it was made in Hungary, following the Augsburg type.
